About Croosly

Hi, I'm Jóhann.

Croosly started as a side project for my girlfriend. She finishes the New York Times mini before her coffee cools and then has nothing to do, so I built her a small crossword in a single HTML file. She liked it. I kept adding.

Croosly is a small set of mini, midi, and maxi crosswords inspired by The New York Times. No app, no signup, no ads. The only thing collected is anonymous solve times to understand which puzzles people play — see the privacy page for the details. Just open the link.

The puzzles themselves are AI-assisted. I generate candidates with a large language model, then check every clue, rewrite the awkward ones, and toss anything that feels lifted from somewhere else. The model drafts; I curate.

It's built with the bare minimum — a few static HTML files, React loaded from a CDN, Google Fonts. There's no backend. Your stats live in your own browser. The whole site is open in the URL bar.

I make new puzzles when I have time. If you'd like to suggest one, the email is on the privacy page.
